Lunar Energies: Understanding the phases of the moon and using them for your personal growth
Magali BeaussantThe phases of the moon influence our emotions, desires, and inner rhythm. In this article, I'll share how to live in harmony with the lunar energies to feel more aligned and confident each day.
For as long as I can remember, I have always felt a special connection with the moon.
Its light soothes me, its presence reminds me that everything is in motion, that nothing is ever fixed.
When I go through a period of doubt or transformation, I often look up at the sky. The moon reminds me that each phase has a meaning: emptiness, growth, full light, and then the return to calm.
Over time, I learned to observe these cycles, to understand them, and then to experience them fully. The energies of the lunar cycle became my guiding thread, a simple way to be more in tune with myself.
Today, I want to share this approach with you, so that you can connect with these natural rhythms and draw inspiration from them on your path of personal growth.
Understanding the lunar cycle
What is a lunar cycle and why does it influence us?
A lunar month is a complete cycle of the moon, which lasts approximately 28-29 days.
Meanwhile, the moon goes through different phases, from new moon to full moon, before returning to its starting point. This cycle perfectly reflects the movement of life: there are times to sow, to act, to harvest, and others to rest.
By observing the moon, we relearn to live in rhythm. Each phase teaches us something.
When I feel lost, I come back to this idea: nature moves in cycles, and so do I.
The eight phases of the moon and their energies
Each of the eight phases of the moon has its own particular energies.
Here, the focus is on feeling what resonates within you rather than giving you introspective protocols. We all have different affinities depending on the phases. Some will be unsettled by the full moon, while others will be agitated during the new moon. Here are the eight phases:
New Moon – Intention and Renewal
This is the initial phase, the one where everything is still invisible.
This is a time for inner listening. What do I want to put in place, what do I want to grow within me during this month?
I connect with who I am and what I want, during this first day of the new moon, because with it, we move from a very low energy to the growing energy of renewal.
The following day, I take a few minutes to refocus, breathe, and set my intentions for the coming cycle. I like to do this after tidying my space and with a cup of herbal tea. I open my Khonsu and release my desires.
This is a moment just for me.

First croissant – Trust
The planted seeds are beginning to germinate.
You can feel a little energy of movement, a momentum.
Now is the time to act with confidence, even if everything is not yet clear.
When I doubt, I remind myself that every step counts, even the tiniest, like the very first beams of moonlight.
First quarter – Action and perseverance
This phase encourages us to move from words to action.
Sometimes obstacles appear, internal or external resistances, limiting thoughts that hinder the implementation of concrete actions.
I welcome them as opportunities to clarify my priorities.
The moon pushes me to stay aligned, to adjust without imposing perfection on myself.
Waxing Gibbous – The Adjustment
During this phase, the light increases.
Projects are taking shape, intentions are materializing.
I often take time to observe what is growing and what needs adjusting.
This is a valuable phase for taking stock, without judgment.
Full Moon – Clarity and Gratitude
The moon is full, radiant, majestic. Its energy is powerful and overwhelms me. I often feel as if it's giving me a benevolent wink, as if it's saying: "Don't worry, I'm here, I'm guiding you."
This is a good opportunity to take stock: what have I accomplished, what have I understood, what do I want to celebrate?
I also like to note in my Khonsu what I choose to release: the false beliefs that have held me back, my fears, my tensions. This allows me to make room for new things.

Waning gibbous – Letting go
After the peak comes the relaxation.
It's time to slow down and get back to basics.
I'm trying to rest more, and listen to your body, which is far from easy in the whirlwind we live in.
But when I get there, this phase helps me recognize that not everything always has to be productive.
Resting is also a way of moving forward!
Last quarter – The assessment
I look at what has borne fruit and what no longer resonates.
Some people at this point practice a small ritual of forgiveness: towards themselves, towards others, towards life. Because nothing can be perfect, neither our trials, nor our reactions, and even less so our aspirations. We make mistakes, we fall, we get back up: the cycle of wisdom, in my opinion.
It's a gentle way to close the cycle with lightness.
Balsamic Moon – Rest and regeneration
This is the end of the cycle, the time to completely let go.
I allow myself to simply be without expectations.
This phase is like a great sigh, an invitation to silence. It prepares the ground for the new intention that will come with the next lunar cycle.
In the meantime, I'm making myself a little space on the last croissant, just like Pierrot!
Using lunar energies to grow and discover oneself
How to live in harmony with the moon's rhythm on a daily basis?
Living consciously in harmony with the phases of the moon does not mean planning everything around it.
It's more a way of aligning oneself with a natural rhythm, gentler and more respectful of oneself.
You can start simply:
-
Observe the moon each night and note your feelings.
-
Keep a small lunar journal : one page per phase, with what you experience, feel or learn.
-
Create a ritual space : a candle, a notebook ( Khonsu for example), a few minutes for yourself at each new and full moon.
These small gestures, repeated with kindness, create deep reference points. They help you better understand your own cycles: when you are in action, when you need to slow down, when it's time to let go.
Neuroscience often talks about the power of habits. Consciously repeating a gesture with each cycle strengthens new connections in your brain. Little by little, you become more present, more grounded, more confident.
Mistakes to avoid
Mistakes to avoid when following lunar cycles
When I first started following the lunar cycle, I tended to want to do everything “right”.
I used to compare myself to others, I wanted my rituals to be perfect. Then I understood that the moon expects nothing. It simply offers a mirror.
There's no right or wrong way to experience these phases. Some months you'll feel very connected; others you'll feel less of that pull. And that's perfectly fine!
The key is to return to it with curiosity and kindness, without demands. The most beautiful ritual is consistency in gentleness.
